I am an artist who lives and works in Austin, TX. Growing up in America over the past 45 years, my art is deeply rooted in my working-class upbringing and shaped by the vibrant influences of television, the internet, and the bold palette of fast food culture. Pop culture, science fiction, childhood toys, and subcultures like punk rock and hip hop play a significant role in my work as I delve into themes of masculinity, the American dream, and the myth of the hero. Much of my practice reflects how the ideals we’re taught to believe often clash with reality.
Through bricolage sculptures, paintings, and mixed media, I explore the intersections of memory, culture, and society. I work with an eclectic mix of materials, combining bright, playful colors with unexpected handmade objects to create pieces that feel whimsical yet unsettling. This tension between the naive and the strange allows me to invite curiosity and challenge perception.
Memory and nostalgia are central to my process. I use materials imbued with personal and cultural significance—discarded toys, found objects, and familiar household items—transforming them into stories that bridge collective memories and individual experiences. By blending the familiar with the unexpected, my work examines what it means to grow up in a world shaped by media, materialism, and mythmaking, inviting viewers to reconsider the narratives that define our lives.
